About the Organization
Location: Pune
Our client is an innovative materials technology company focused on developing next-generation, seaweed-based and natural polymer materials that replace plastics and harmful synthetics in packaging. Their solutions are designed to work seamlessly on existing industrial processes while delivering measurable environmental impact. With a mission to build scalable and sustainable alternatives, the organization is driving material innovation that addresses climate and plastic pollution challenges.
About the Role
The client is seeking a Head of Technology to lead both R&D and industrial deployment. This leader will own end-to-end research—from material science to prototypes—while ensuring smooth translation into scalable, commercially viable solutions. The role bridges deep scientific exploration with practical industrial rollout, requiring expertise in natural polymers, packaging applications, and process scale-up. The Head of Technology will also mentor technical teams and build collaborations across labs, partners, and industrial players.
Key Responsibilities
Research & Development (≈50%)
- Focus R&D on natural polymer systems (seaweed derivatives, proteins, chitosan, polysaccharides)—not fossil-derived or chemically processed “bioplastics.”
- Drive formulation work, material characterization, and performance testing for coatings, films, and packaging substrates.
- Develop, document, and protect intellectual property.
- Build and mentor a cross-disciplinary team (natural polymers, food-contact safety, application testing).
- Establish in-house lab capabilities and forge collaborations with universities and research institutions.
Technology Deployment (≈50%)
- Translate lab-scale processes into robust, industrial technologies.
- Lead trials and production scale-up with converters, coaters, and packaging partners.
- Ensure compatibility with existing machinery; create clear SOPs.
- Partner with supply chain and operations to optimize cost, yield, and sustainability outcomes.
- Establish strong quality systems; secure food-contact and industrial regulatory approvals.
